Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has admitted to the media that he doesn’t really trust UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was allegedly involved in a couple of controversies.

It was reported by MalaysiaKini that incidents such as the letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the leaked audio recording the UMNO President and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made it difficult for the Khairy to trust Ahmad Zahid.

For now, he said that he will continue doing his job to vaccinate Malaysians via the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

I am still loyal to Umno. I am a minister from Umno. Let me work on the vaccination exercise.

Letter and audio recordings source of doubt

The MOSTI Minister said that doubts arose especially with a few incidents involving the Bagan Datoh MP.

Previously, it was reported that Zahid allegedly sent a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong claiming that UMNO MPs are supporting Anwar as the next Prime Minister.

This was despite the fact that the (UMNO) president had not sought my views, and nor had I given him the nod to use my name (in the letter). How can I trust a party President like this.

The other incident that was cited was the telephone conversation between the two party leaders which was leaked online – although the UMNO President denies involvement on both occasions.

Last week, several UMNO MPs have given up their Ministerial positions as part of the party’s exodus from the Federal Government.

Former Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad and Former Energy And Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah were some of the names that have declared their loyalty to the party and left their posts.
