Medical, dental, and pharmacy officers on government contracts will be offered a two year contract of services following their 2 years of compulsory service, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yasin today.
In statement, the Prime Minister also said that Cabinet had agreed to extend the contracts for up to four years for doctors and dentists.
“This is to ensure that the relevant officers are able to complete their respective specialisation courses,” read the statement.
Furthermore, they will also receive career paths that are equivalent to those of permanent officers, including paid study leave, scholarships, and training, special medical duty leaves, and even travel fare to return home.
These, said Mahiaddin, are the immediate steps being taken but a revamping of the medical system is also underway, including examining the Medical Act 1971 and building a long term plan for the medical system.
