Selangor Targets Moving To Phase 2 Of National Recovery Plan By September

The Selangor State Government is targeting to move into Phase 2 of the Covid-19 National Recovery Plan (PPN) by September this year.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was quoted as saying that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) enforced in several districts across Darul Ehsan was a necessary initiative to bring Covid-19 infection numbers down and the public should not doubt its effectiveness.

He explained that the effects of the EMCO cannot be measured in just three or four days and that based on the events that occurred during the previous MCO 1.0 and 2.0 that took place in 2020, infections in Selangor only went down after a period of three weeks.

In order to reach Phase 2 of the PPN, Amminudin said that Selangor needed to increase its community vaccination rate.

We expect by next week, as many as 10% of adults will be vaccinated.

Not Selangor’s call to shut down factories during EMCO

Selangor’s State Government had issued a proposal to the National Security Council (MKN) to consider only letting essential service sectors operate during the EMCO and that all other economic and industrial sectors would and should remain closed.

However, Amminudin elaborated that the State Government cannot instruct the complete shutdown of factory operations in Selangor because it was under the purview of MKN.

He said that only premises operating under the jurisdiction of Selangor’s local authorities (PBT) can be ordered to close by the state.

Amirudin had previously noted that over 90% of coronavirus infections detected in Selangor had come from the workplace.

In June, there were a total of 125 workplace clusters across the state with 80% of cases linked to factories while another 11% had come from construction sites.

Covid-19 infections in Selangor remain at an all-time high. A record of 4,400 new cases was recorded in the state as of 9 July – adding to the state’s total of 277,393 cumulative cases.

The latest data from the Special Committee On Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) indicated that 20.1% of Selangor’s population have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while another 6.8% have completed both injections.

From that number, 27.7% of those who have been vaccinated with the first dose were adults while 9.4% of the state’s ‘grown-ups’ have completed both vaccine doses.
