Gov’t Thinking About Extending AstraZeneca Vaccine To Those Outside Of Klang Valley

The government is looking to offer AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines for Malaysians living outside of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Minister of Science and Technology, Khairy Jamaluddin said that 1.1 million more doses will be arriving this month and added that the government wants to reach out to those without internet access.
This was as soon as the government announced that the AZ was going to be part of the national immunisation programme. This resulted in our decision to carve out AZ from the mainstream programme and have an opt-in programme. As soon as we announced the carve-out, about 80% of those who cancelled on MySejahtera re-registered for their appointments. So this is the data that we have showing how there was vaccination hesitancy.

It’s reported by The Star that another 600,000 doses are expected to come in on June, with another 400,000 coming in July.
This will continue in August and September, as Malaysia will receive a batch of 1.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines, Khairy said.
Meanwhile, Malay Mail reported that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine will be given out on a voluntary basis after the first opt-in application rollout was well received.
The vaccine’s roll-out programme which offered the vaccine recently recorded 268,000 registrations in the span of three hours.
We have closed the AZ wait list. There are more AZ vaccines scheduled for delivery. We will prioritise those on the wait list when the new shipment arrives.
