Alarm bells are ringing as Malaysia is set to see horrific new heights of Covid-19 infections, surging to 5,000 daily cases with weak compliance to the health standard operating procedures (SOP).
With the effective reproduction rate (rt) of Covid-19 at 1.16 (22nd April 2021), Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared that the ministry projects that the number of new cases will shoot up to 5,000 new cases at the end of May 2021.
In fact, in the Health Ministry’s observed and projected Covid-19 cases graph, Malaysia’s current case numbers are indeed on track to the worst case scenario.
The daily number of cases can only be brought down if the effective reproduction rate (rt) of Covid-19 is reduced to 0.8. The coronavirus reproduction rate (R0/R-nought) is the rate at which the infection spreads from person to person. A reproduction rate of 1 means one person can infect one other person.

US CDC has also labelled Malaysia’s Covid-19 situation at “Very High” level
Just as the Health Ministry released the worrying data, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised its citizens to avoid all travel to Malaysia, labelling the current Covid-19 situation at “Very High” level.
Travelers should avoid all travel to Malaysia.

In a statement on its website, the CDC said because of the current situation in Malaysia, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants, and they should avoid all travel to Malaysia.
If you must travel to Malaysia, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands.
