Police warned of strict action against those who illegally travel across inter-state borders to celebrate the 2021 Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season.

Similar to 2020’s ‘MCO-Raya’, PDRM will be conducting roadblocks to prevent people from crossing inter-state borders without proper permission.

The police will also be conducting home-to-home inspections to snuff out any SOP-breaking individuals who might have gotten through the Aidilfitri blockade.

Slipping through the rain

According to Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department Director Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Jaafar, rulebreakers who travel without permission have been smart at evading the authorities.

He explained that travellers escape roadblocks by doing so during heavy rains to avoid being stopped by authorities as they take cover from the elements.

Officers can’t be on guard during heavy rains and storms because of safety factors.

Empty your driveways!

Among the strategies used by the cops will be to check houses with a suspicious number of vehicles parked in the driveway.

They will then examine if guests have the appropriate permission or travel letter to be there.

What’s the rule?

Malaysian’s are only allowed to travel between state borders from Mondays to Thursdays with approval from authorities and only for these reasons;

  • Employment
  • Emergency and death (involving immediate family members i.e. parents, children and siblings only)
  • Medical
  • Education
  • Long-distance spouses

Interstate travel for social purposes such as weddings, banquets or balik kampung is strictly prohibited.

Travel between Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas are also banned to prevent further Covid-19 outbreak.
