Two Malaysian future accountants scored within the Top 10 students internationally in this year’s ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Examinations.
What’s more impressive is that Nurul Fatin Nabihah binti Hamdan, 25, and Siti Naziah binti Mohamad Nazid, 21, students from Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC), managed to beat some 92,000 candidates worldwide sitting for the exam.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Exams by the global professional accounting body offers the Chartered Certified Accountant qualification- the professional body’s main qualification.
From humble beginnings to global triumph!
Nurul Fatin placed first in Malaysia and 7th globally for the “Strategic Business Reporting” paper.
She has a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi Mara and took the ACCA Exams to increase her chances of securing a job with additional qualifications, according to a MyPAC statement.
She also holds a full scholarship from Yayasan Sime Darby and started her ACCA programme in September 2020.
The extrodinary thing is that she was only equipped with her mobile phone to sit for the test, as she is continuing her studies at her home in Terengganu due to the MCO. Additionally, she also passed the “Advanced Taxation” paper and will have to complete two more papers to be qualified as an ACCA “Strategic Professional” by September 2021.
Meanwhile, Siti Naziah placed first in Malaysia and 9th globally for the “Audit and Assurance” paper.
She, too, is studying from her home in Perak. She has to complete four more papers and is expected to complete her ACCA qualification in March 2022.
Both students are from B40 families, yet achieved such tremendous results, which is why MyPAC chief executive officer Zaiton Mohd Hassan notes that it is crucial for funding to go to deserving underprivileged students so that they are given opportunities to succeed.
MyPAC will continue to work closely with various corporations and zakat authorities to select and fund deserving students from underprivileged families to pursue professional accountancy qualifications such as ACCA in the effort to increase the number of Bumiputera professional accountants.
