PERMAI: More Free Internet & Electricity Bills Discounts For Malaysians

In a special address today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a RM15 billion financial assistance package dubbed PERMAI – Pakej Bantuan Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (or the Malaysian Economic and Rakyat Protection Assistance Package).
The package covers a lot of things. But in this article we’ve focused on the initiatives involving just basic utilities.
1GB Free Internet Extended
The public will receive 1 gigabyte (1GB) of free data to use for surfing the internet, including for educational purposes.
This programme, which began on 1 January 2021, will be extended until the end of April 2021.
Besides that, a special subscription package for students sitting for their SPM and STPM exams will be extended to include students studying at the tertiary level as well. This special package will also be available until the end of April 2021.
Continued Discounts for Electricity Bills
An electricity rebate will be given to all Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) users, both domestic and non-domestic. The rebate is at a rate of 2 cents for every kilowatt per hour. This is equivalent to a 9% decrease for 6 months beginning 1 January until 30 June 2021.
Besides that, a special electricity bill discount of 10% will be awarded to six industry sectors nationwide from January until March 2021. These sectors are; hoteliers, theme parks, convention centres, shopping malls, local airline offices and tourism agencies.
