PERMAI: Here’s All The New & Extended Tax Reliefs For Malaysians

Today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced a RM15 billion special aid package called PERMAI – Pakej Bantuan Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (The Malaysian Economic and Rakyat Protection Assistance Package).

Here are all the tax exemptions you can get under this package.

Covid-19 screening tests are now tax exempted

In order to encourage the public to get themselves screened for Covid-19, the government increased and extended its health screening tax relief announced during Budget 2021.

The health screening tax relief has been increased from RM500 to RM1,000 and extended to include the cost of Covid-19 tests at private clinics and hospitals.

Tax exemptions for those who donate

All members of the public who donate cash and kind to help other members of the community will enjoy tax exemptions from either their gross business income or aggregate income.

Need a new phone, computer or tablet?

The special tax relief of up to RM2,500 for purchasing mobile phones, computers, and tablets which ended on 31 December 2020 will be extended for another year until 31 December 2021.

Bought a car? Sales tax exemption extended

The government is extending the sales tax exemption for passenger vehicles that are assembled locally and imported.

The tax exemption- under the PENJANA package – which ended on 31 December 2020 is extended to 30 June 2021.
