The Education Ministry (MOE) has announced that all educational institutions nationwide, including those in Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) areas, will reopen on 20 January 2021.
In a statement released on 2 Jan, MOE said that the opening dates for public schools can be referred to the ministry’s School Calendar Year 2021 schedule online (HERE) while private educational institutions (IPS) opening dates are subject to their respective academic calendars.
The 2021 school year in government schools and government-assisted schools will be from Jan 20 to Dec 9 for states in Group A (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) and from Jan 20 to Dec 10 for states in Group B (all other states and territories).
The reopening directive also applies to international schools.
With the reopening of schools and academic institutions, MOE stresses that their operations will be in accordance to:
- Guidelines for School Management and Operation in New Norms
- Guidelines for the Management and Operation of Teacher Education Institutes and Matriculation Colleges in New Norms.
MOE also states that it will continue to monitor the operation of educational institutions together with the Health Ministry (MOH) and the National Security Council (MKN) to ensure that the health and safety of educational institutions are given top priority.
