[UPDATED] Two M’sian Border Officers Shot While On Duty At M’sian-Thai Border

UPDATE: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador has confirmed that the shootout happened spontaneously between a group of smugglers and two border officers who were on an intelligence operation.

Two members of the General Operation Force (GOF) were shot at while on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border post near Padang Besar, Perlis this morning (24 November).

In the 3am incident, Corporal Baharuddin Ramli, 54, died at the scene, while his patrol partner Corporal Norihan Tari, 39, is in critical condition.

According to The Star, both men are from the GOF Bidor’s Battalion 3 and were at the TS9 post along the border when they were shot.

The incident was confirmed by North Brigate GOD commander Senior Asst Comm Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji who said he will provide the full details of the incident after an investigation is carried out.

Norihan was initially treated at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar before being transferred to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, while Baharuddin’s body was taken to the latter hospital for a post-mortem.

The Star also reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador has made his way to Perlis to visit the victims and get a briefing on the situation.
