Health Minister: MySejahtera Directly Traced Only 4% Of Covid-19 Cases
He also states that additional cases are detected indirectly through the app.

Only 4% of total Covid-19 cases in Malaysia were directly detected through MySejahtera, revealed Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba in a written Parliamentary reply on 12 November.
The Health Minister was responding to Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming who asked for the number of Covid-19 patients successfully detected through MySejahtera and what warning system is used to inform MySejahtera users that the place they check in has also been visited by Covid-19 patients.
So far, about 4% of the total cases have been successfully detected directly through the self-health assessment MySejahtera application.

Dr Adham’s reply also indicates that most contact tracing was done manually by the health authorities. He states that additional cases are detected indirectly through the app, where a list of vulnerable cases can especially be given quickly and accurately through this application to authorised officers.
The Health Minister also clarified on the app’s hotspot tracker – which had been a subject of contention among Klang Valley users in late September with complaints of its failure to notify users of recent, nearby Covid-19 cases.

According to Dr Adham, MySejahtera’s hotspot detector is a function that indicates the location of the source of infection and potential Covid-19 case infection. This function is “on demand” and which requires the user to check the current status from time to time.
This hotspot tracker is a guide for users to know the risk status of a searched location.

He also elaborated that MySejahtera cannot automatically notify or track an individual Covid-19 case because the app does not use GPS continuously and such a feature is against privacy rights of users as well contradicts MOH policy.
The MySejahtera application was launched on 20 April 2020 with the aim to assist in the management of the Covid-19 epidemic in Malaysia. It allows users to perform health self-assessment on themselves and their family members.
Malaysia records a total of 50, 390 Covid-19 cases so far with 322 deaths. There are currently 12, 814 active cases.
