Malaysia has less job vacancies available in the private sector at the end of 2020.

According to the Department of Statistics (DOSM) job openings in private companies declined by 181,000 to 8.4 million jobs in the third-quarter (Q3) of 2020 compared to the 8.6 million positions available in that same period last year.

Data shows that the rate of job vacancies declined to 2.1% against Q3 2019.

DOSM revealed that a total of 13,000 jobs were created in the semi-skilled category while 6,000 and 2,000 vacancies were made available for skilled workers and low-skilled jobs respectively.

The department also explained that vacancies were largely available in the manufacturing sector taking up a share of 56% followed by job openings in the service industry at 38.9%.

As of September, Malaysia’s unemployment rate stood at 4.6% with DOSM forecasting that around 729,000 people would be out of work by the end of the year.
