MOH Considering Adding “Orange Zone” As An Alert To Implement CMCO

The Health Ministry is considering adding an “orange zone”, on top of the current “green zone”, “yellow zone”, and “red zone” used to categorise localities with rising Covid-19 cases.
The “orange zone” would be used for areas where there are 21 to 40 Covid-19 cases detected. Previously, “green zones” were areas with no cases, “yellow zones” were areas with one to 40 cases, and “red zones” were for areas with more than 41 cases.

While responding to a question during his daily Covid-19 press conference, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah explained that the Health Ministry was taking proactive action when the Klang Valley was placed under a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) on 14 October.
At that point of time there was only one mukim (Klang) that was red (zone).

He said the Health Ministry had made a risk assessment of the area, taking into consideration the density and mobility of the population in the area.
On top of that, the R0 value in the Klang Valley was also very high at the time, said Dr Noor Hisham.
Nonetheless, perhaps we should be more proactive and consider implementing a CMCO before the district becomes a “red zone”.

He explained that following this, his team has considered that proactive measures should be taken, including using the “orange zone” categorisation as an alert for authorities to take action, instead of waiting for the area to be considered as a “red zone.”
