Malaysia is on China’s VIP list for any Covid-19 vaccine that the country manages to develop.

In a statement to the press, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said that China was committed to placing Malaysia as a “priority recipient” for a Chinese-made coronavirus vaccine, once it’s available.

Following a meeting he had with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi, Hishammuddin said that China was optimistic on further cooperation between the two nations for the research, development and distribution of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Hishammuddin also mentions that both countries had agreed to continue discussions on facilitating cross-border movements for business and official travels via the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL), that would be launched only when the time is right.

Reportedly, Malaysia and China will also be working on concluding a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen bilateral ties after the Covid-19 pandemic was over as well as working together to safeguard the country’s supply chains against a global food shortage.
