PM Says Won’t Impose Nationwide MCO, Only TEMCO
He admitted that Sabah elections added to cases, but had to be held.

In a special announcement on Malaysia’s Covid-19 situation this evening, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin admits that the recent Sabah election campaign was a source of the recent spike of new cases.
This is something unavoidable as it is in the constitution to have an election within 60 days after Dewan Undangan Negeri was dismissed.
Unfortunately, there were some SOP that were not adhered to such as physical distancing, which I noticed while in Sabah and reminded people. I also refused to campaign in the red zones for the safety of my officers and myself.

Muhyiddin said he saw with his own eyes people sitting close together at events and had to institute his own SOP.
He would pull up to an event and go straight to the stage to speak, not walking through crowds, and would leave immediately after without shaking hands.
The Prime Minister also assures that it is easier to detect the close contacts of Covid-19 positive patients now compared to earlier outbreaks as the government now has contact tracing apps such as MySejahtera and registration at entry points of premises.
We are now better prepared than before in terms of experience and manpower. We know the behaviour of the virus. We must flatten the curve- we did it before and I’m sure we can do it again.

Muhyiddin also assures that the government will not implement a nationwide lockdown or Movement Control Order (MCO) as he doesn’t want to close any sectors of the economy as we did before.
The government will instead implement Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) in red zones to mitigate any economic impact of the pandemic.
He delivered the address from his home, where he is currently undergoing a 14-day home quarantine after attending a meeting with a minister who later tested positive for Covid-19.
In the first week of October alone, Malaysia broke its record for new cases four times since the pandemic began.
Today, 691 new cases were reported – Malaysia’s biggest daily increase Covid-19 cases ever with almost every state recording a new case and four new deaths.
