Covid-19: New Jalan Apas Cluster Detected In Selangor Linked To Sabah Travellers

A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected by the Health Ministry. This time in Klang, Selangor.

Named the Jalan Apas Cluster, the index patients have been identified to be a married couple who travelled to Tawau and Semporna in Sabah from 13 to 16 September.

On 18 September, the couple started to exhibit flu-like symptoms, such as a cough and fever and sought treatment at a medical facility the next day, said a statement by the Health Ministry.

They were referred to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang on September 24, 2020, found positive for Covid-19 on September 26, 2020 and have been admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh.

The index patients are known as Cases 10,782 and 10,783. Six more individuals in the cluster were identified as positive from contact tracing, bringing the total number of cases in the cluster to eight.

The Health Ministry stated that they have tested a total of 66 people connected to the cluster, 56 of whom were Covid-19 negative.

With the addition of the Jalan Apas Cluster, there are now 20 active clusters in the country.

Sabah has been identified as a high-risk area for Covid-19 transmission with new cases having been recorded there on a daily basis. 

Yesterday, the government decided to implement a targeted enhanced movement control order (TEMCO) on four east coast districts there to manage the further spread of the virus.
