The decision on status of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) will be made based on the country’s Covid-19 data, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The RMCO is slated to end on 31 August.

He said to the media that if the country doesn’t record any no new infections until end of August, then Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act would no longer need to be enforced by the government.

Under the RMCO, Malaysia started to ease restrictions such as allowing more people to engage in social activities and domestic tourism.

Although there are less limitations for citizens now as compared to MCO, authorities have been active on ensuring that people adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

This includes the enforcement of facial masks in public areas starting 1 August after an increase of cases at the time.
