Lim Guan Eng Pleads Not Guilty To Graft Charges, Bail Set At RM1 Million

Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has pleaded not guilty for his alleged involvement in the RM6.3 billion Penang Undersea Tunnel and granted bail of RM1 million in two sureties.
The court has decided that 9 September will be the next mention date.
After this, Lim will be attending two more court hearings, at Penang Sessions Court on 10 and 11 August for offences under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commissions (MACC) Act (2009).
Below are his charges under the Act:
Section 16 (a)(A)
According to the charge, Lim, while serving as the Chief Minister of Penang allegedly asked a bribe in the form of a 10% cut of the profit from the road and tunnel project.
The offence was alledgely committed at The Gardens Hotel on March 2011.
The law states that its an offence for an individual to corruptly solicit, receive or agree to receive any gratification for himself or others.
Section 23
Any officer of a public body who uses his office or position for any gratification, whether for himself, his relative or associate, commits an offence.
Penalty for the offences
According to the MACC Act (2009) the penalty for each offence carries a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the sum of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
