Now that masks are mandatory in crowded public areas, the public has been wondering what exactly constitutes as a crowded public area. Senior Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told the public to just wear masks unless the area is open enough to safely physically distance, which raised more questions than it answered.
Now, the government has come up with a full list of places where masks are mandatory, so Malaysians can clear up their confusion over the mandate.
According to information from the National Security Council, masks are mandatory as follows:
- Mosques and prayer rooms
- Non-Muslim places of worship
- Social gatherings
- Public transportation
- Zoos
- School busses and vans
- Sports and recreation
- Healthcare premises
- Public and wet markets
- Live events
- Retail premises (all)
- Beauty and hair salons
- Spas and reflexology centers
- Family entertainment centers
So basically, everywhere lah, unless you have special exemptions.
The fight against Covid-19 is not yet over, and even just one careless person can cause a cluster outbreak, so don’t take the risk. Stay safe and wear your masks.
