The doctor-population ratio in the country is better than the one prescribed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), said Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba.
Currently, he said, Malaysia has around 71,041 medical doctors in the public and private sectors, making it one doctor for every 454 individuals.
Dr Adham said out of the total, 73% or 51,912 medical doctors are serving the Ministry of Health (MOH).
As for dentists, there are 11,059 dentists in the country, making it 1 dentist for every 2,963, with 6,530 serving the MOH.
He said the Ministry will look at increasing the training capacity for medical, dental and pharmaceutical grads as they want to expand the number of medical staff.
This allows them to continue being a medical practitioner either in the public or private sector.
