After the daily number of new Covid-19 cases started increasing again, and news of people flouting their home quarantine orders went viral, the Malaysian government announced on 21 July, that travelers from abroad will again be required to undergo their 14-day quarantine and government facilities.

The order was to come into effect on 24 July, and individuals involved would also have to pay for the accomodation themselves.

The announcement seems to have resulted in the Singapore – Malaysia Causeway seeing crazy long lines of visitors today (23 July) one day before the order’s implementation.

According to reports, it seems that these travellers from Singapore were hoping to cross the border and enter Malaysia before midnight tonight so that they could still serve their quarantine order at home.

Pictures shared online which were apparently taken at 9am this morning showed snaking meter long queues of people holding onto their luggage bags on the road leading to the Johor Bahru Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex.
