Although initially announcing it would take place in July, the government has said that they are only giving out the RM50 ePenjana credit to registered Malaysians at the end of July.

What you need to know: According to Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the final details of the ePenjana program, such as the mechanism of crediting it into eWallets, will be announced soon. He added saying that the government will only credit the money by the end of this month.

Why it matters: The program was one of the government’s initiatives under the Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) to aid in rehabilitating the economy. It was supposed to start in July and last until September.

How it got here: The ePenjana RM50 credit is for all Malaysians aged 18 years old and above with an annual income of less than RM100,000, just like the RM30 eTunai Rakyat introduced in January 2020.

With an allocation of RM750 million, the ePenjana initiative is expected to benefit 15 million Malaysians. However, unlike eTunai Rakyat, ePenjana can only be used in offline and physical purchases only. Those applying are also required to download and register with the government’s MySejahtera app.
