In a study conducted by the Health Ministry, low levels of antibodies were found in recovered patients from the Covid-19 Sungai Lui cluster.

Their levels of antibodies were discovered to be at about 20%, which means that these recovered patients are at risk of getting infected again.

In case you get confused like us over what antibodies are, antibodies are the proteins produced by the immune system when a foreign substance enters the body, like viruses, bacteria, etc. These antibodies help protect you from foreign substances that might be harmful.

Usually, after falling sick, the body would have an increased amount of antibodies.

However, according to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, studies from other countries also discovered similar results – patients infected with Covid-19 showed diminishing levels of antibodies eight weeks after recovery.

By right, those who have been infected with Covid-19 should experience increasing antibodies up to 80%.

Consequently, Malaysia is now considering carrying out a third phase study on Covid-19 to find the best course of action to stimulate lasting antibodies in a recovering Covid-19 patient.
