3 Kittens Murdered After Being Put In Dobi Washing Machine

A local woman was shocked to find 3 young kittens drowned at a self-service laundromat in Kepong on 12 July. She has since made a police report.

What you need to know: The 39-year-old woman had visited the laundromat in the morning and found the bodies of three kittens in three separate washing machines. She notified authorities and was then asked to hold on to the dead bodies until the Malaysia Veterinary Service Department (DVS) Regulatory Unit could arrive on the scene to begin their investigation. CCTV footage revealed a man putting the three cats into the washing machines at around 5.30am.

If the suspect is found and brought to court, he can be charged under Section 29 (1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 which carries a maximum three years’ jail or a maximum RM100,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

Why it matters: Animal abuse is rampant in the country, where cats and dogs are murdered, often in gruesome ways, with distressing frequency. Just last year, in a similar case, a man was charged with killing a pregnant cat by putting her in the dryer of a self-service laundromat along with two others. He was sentenced to 34 months in jail with a RM40,000 fine.
