Malaysia Prihatin Is This Year’s Theme For National and Malaysia Day Celebrations

‘Malaysia Prihatin’ (Malaysia Cares) has been chosen as the theme for the National and Malaysia Day celebrations this year.

What you need to know: According to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, the theme was chosen to recognise the caring, determined, and patient nature of the people in facing the trials and tribulations resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an effort to liven up the National and Malaysia Day celebrations this year, the government has planned to carry out four main activities; celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Rukun Negara in Putrajaya (9 July – 16 September), launching of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang also in Putrajaya(28 July), National Day in Kuala Lumpur (31 August), and Malaysia Day in Sibu, Sarawak (16 September).

There will be no parade, but Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will be broadcasting a programme on 31 August to mark the occasion.

How it got here: On 8 July, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri announced that there would be no National Day parade this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the parade would involve thousands of people and would render social distancing a difficult practice among the public attendees.
