RMCO: Team Sports Such As Football, Basketball & Hockey Allowed From Next Week Onwards

Senior Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today that more aspects of sports and recreation activities will open on 15th July.

First, sports competitions and championships for non-contact sports are allowed without any live spectators. This applies to motoring and individual sports such as racing, badminton, gymnastics, diving and chess.

Contact sports and team sports are also allowed from 15th July but not for competitions. This includes sports such as football, basketball,rugby, hockey, squash, sepak takraw and contact sports like taekwondo and silat.

However, Ismail Sabri states that local championships are allowed for contact and team sports, including:

  • Malaysian Super League
  • Malaysia Premier League
  • Malaysian Football League (MFL)
  • Sepak Takraw League (STL)
  • Malaysian Hockey League (MHL)
  • Malaysia Rugby League

This announcement also means sporting centres, commercial field operators and sporting academies can reopen on the same day.

Health standard operating procedures (SOP) also applies including limited number of people within premises, temperature screening, using the MySejahtera application, pre-booking and regular disinfection.

The SOPs will be uploaded on the National Security Council’s (MKN) website (HERE) in the near future.
