Bukit Broga will reportedly be closed to visitors for two weeks starting 27 June 2020 following apparent violations of standard operating procedures (SOP).

According to the chairman of Hulu Langat District Disaster Management Committee Yusri Zakariah, the decision to close the recreational area was made during a meeting by the Selangor Safety Working Committee on Wednesday (24 June).

In a statement, Yusri said that all related agencies are also required to provide notice and monitor SOP compliance.

The director of the Selangor Department of Health will issue a closure order for Bukit Broga in accordance with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No.7) 2020.

On 22 June, Bukit Broga was reported to be crowded on the weekend when a sudden influx of hikers visited the area.

The popular hiking spot in Semenyih, which is considered to be under the jurisdiction of the Kajang Municipal Council, doesn’t have specific officers placed there to control the area.

This is because the entrance to the hill is controlled by the landowner, who has used the area as a designated paid parking area for visitors.
