Preschools and kindergartens will be allowed to operate as usual starting 1 July, as long as they follow the official Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
What you need to know: The government has agreed on an SOP for preschool and kindergartens to follow as they resume operations on 1 July .The SOP will include procedures for when they enter and exit the premises, how they play at the kindergarten, and mealtimes. The full SOP will be released by the Education Ministry.
Why it matters: The SOP will involve 6,216 preschools and kindergartens under the care of the Education Ministry as well as 7,887 in the private sector.
Who said what: Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob made the announcement on Monday, 15 June, 2020.
How it got here: While daycare centres have been allowed to operate since 4 May, kindergartens have been closed since the Movement Control Order (MCO) began on 18 March, 2020, making it difficult for parents to head back to work as Malaysia enters the Recovery Movement Control Order phase.

TRP's Head of Editorial, Hamzah was formerly a hard-news journalist who reported on politics, did investigative work, and occasionally went undercover. He now spends his days sitting at a desk, checking grammar and fielding calls from PR companies, which is totally fine and fulfilling. For sure. He's also married with kids now so his wife and mother said he can't do risky things anymore.
