Mosques and suraus within the Federal Territories, except for those in Covid-19 red zones, are now allowed to operate as usual beginning June 15.

What you need to know: The Federal Government has decided to allow all mosques and suraus in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan to operate and host congregational religious activities according to official Covid-19 guidelines. Facilities within Covid-19 red zones are still strictly closed off to the public. For other states in Malaysia, each state government would decide on their own standard operating procedure (SOP).

Who said what: Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob made the announcement on Monday, 15 June 2020.

How it got here: Previously the government had allowed for Muslim places of worship in green zones to operate at one-third of its facilities maximum capacity.
