India has become the fourth most infected country from Covid-19, overtaking the United Kingdom.
According to the data from John Hopkins University, India has reported 308,916 cases while the UK recorded 294,402.
Reports also noted that India has one of the world’s lowest testing rates, at 3.78 tests per 1,000 people compared to UK with 53.53 tests per 1,000.
The lack of resources to ramp up testing and identify infection hotspots has affected the country, this is despite imposing lockdown restrictions.
The country is struggling to cope with cases especially in large cities as they’re running low on hospital beds and ventilators. This includes Mumbai and capital New Delhi.
Its neighbours are not faring any better as infections have risen by 27% in Pakistan, while Bangladesh cases spiked by 19%.
