Teachers Suggest Primary Schools Should Start In Late September

With Form 5 and Form 6 students returning to school this June 24, teachers are recommending that primary school students should make a comeback to classes soon, too.
The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) hopes that the Covid-19 crisis would subside by the end of the year and suggests that primary schools should reopen in late September or October to allow physical class sessions to continue
With schools being closed due to the pandemic, teachers and students have been carrying on the education process through online teaching and learning (PDP) from home throughout the numerous nationwide Movement Control Orders (MCOs).
NUTP suggests a radical change to the overall education process in which learning would be split between physical classroom sessions at school and virtual learning sessions at home.
The union proposed that classroom sessions would focus on the four core subjects within the curriculum; Bahasa Malaysia (BM), English (BI), math and science while the remainder of the syllabus can be taught online through PDP.
NUTP also put forward the idea of shortening school hours, suggesting that morning school sessions be held from 8am to noon, and afternoon sessions take place from 1pm to 5pm.
Previously, the Education Ministry (MOE) announced that schools across the country would be reopened in phases, starting with the senior secondary school kids who are set to undertake their major exams.
