Indonesia May Re-implement Lockdowns Amid Rising Covid-19 Cases

Our closest neighbor, Indonesia, is prepared to reimplement its nationwide Covid-19 lockdowns if infections in the country keep rising.
The Republic recently relaxed Covid-restrictions after two months of partial lockdowns – which had offices, schools, places of worship, and public spaces closed off – in order to restart its economy.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo was quoted as saying that the government is continually monitoring situations in the country where life under the “new normal” has taken place and said that there’s still a risk of outbreaks occurring if restrictions are lifted prematurely.
The country reported its highest daily cases of Covid-19 on June 10, with 1,241 new cases concentrated in East Java followed by South Sulawesi, its capital city of Jakarta, Central Java, and South Kalimantan.
Indonesia’s Health Ministry expects the number of cases to continue to rise as the government increased its efforts in testing and contact tracing.
Overall, Indonesia has recorded over 34,000 cases of Covid-19 with close to 2,000 fatalities, making it the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus in Southeast Asia behind Singapore.
