The question that’s been on every parent and child’s mind over the past few months would be answered tomorrow.
The Education Ministry (MOE) together with the Health Ministry (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC) are reportedly meeting today (June 9) to decide when to allow schools to reopen, and the official announcement would be made to the public soon.
According to MOE, the initial school reopening phase would only involve teens at the secondary level, whereby only students expected to undertake top-tier exams namely; SPM, SVM, STAM, and STPM would resume classes as usual.
Classes are to proceed under the “new normal” Covid-guidelines which includes measures such as mandatory temperature screenings, social distancing practices, and limits on certain co-academic and co-curricular activities.
MOE had also been running drills and simulations at selected schools in Selangor and Putrajaya to ensure that the set standard operating procedure (SOP) for the semester’s reopening is adequate at preventing the spread of Covid-19.
Close to 400,000 secondary students are expected to return to school once the official return date is announced.
Schools across the country had been put on an extended break since the nation went into Covid-lockdowns in March.
