[Updated] Rapid KL: No More Social Distancing Rules On Trains & Stations During RMCO

UPDATE: Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has dismissed Rapid Rail’s announcement on ending its social distancing rules for the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). He states that the rail operator cannot make such changes without seeking approval from the National Security Council (MKN).

Following the implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), Rapid KL rail service will return to its normal services prior to the Movement Control Order (MCO) period on 10th June.

This includes no more social distancing rules on the trains and stations.

Rapid Rail CEO Abdul Hadi Amran said the move was in line with the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Transport Ministry for the RMCO period, which grants 100% capacity to all rail services except ETS and KTM Intercity.

Under the RMCO from 10th June onwards, these Klang Valley public transportation services will no longer have social distancing instructions:

  • Kelana Jaya Line LRT
  • Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT
  • Sungai Buloh – Kajang MRT
  • Monorail

Rapid KL also states that social distancing signs and instructions in the train and station have been removed.

However, the rail operator affirms that it will continue to implement the existing health and safety procedures to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.

Among the new normal that passengers have to take note of are:

  1. Temperature screening for all passengers and employees. Those with temperatures above 37.5°C will be turned away and advised to seek medical attention immediately.
  2. Mandatory for passengers and employees to wear face masks covering the nose and mouth.
  3. Use hand sanitizers, including those provided at stations.
  4. Encourage use of cashless facilities and transactions such as monthly passes or Touch N Go cards.
  5. Passengers are encouraged to use the MySejahtera app and scan the QR codes.

Abdul Hadi also affirms that active disinfection of the stations and trains will continue as it has in the past.
