Health DG: Decision To Reopen Schools & Social Sectors Will Be Made By 9th June

Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said that schools and social sectors can reopen if the nation’s Covid-19 cases remain low in the single or lower double digits.

Speaking to reporters at the daily Covid-19 briefing yesterday, he stated that the decision will be made on 9th June, after the Health Ministry has monitored the impact of the Hari Raya festive season last weekend.

Today, we have seen how the collaboration between the ministry and the public can bring down the number of infections, so the strategy of applying the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is fruitful. But the ministry is still concerned about the impact of the festive season, which we will see in the first week of June.

He also mentioned that the ministry’s projections has shown Malaysia is on track to reaching lower case numbers, but remains cautious if it can be sustained.

The timing is important. This is why we are very cautious before we make any changes to our policy. If we can continue to keep the daily cases to low double-digit or reduce it further to single digit, then we will make a decision on June 9.

He hopes that the public can work hand in hand with the Health Ministry to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place, which will ensure low Covid-19 cases in the country.

Yesterday, Malaysia recorded its lowest daily Covid-19 case increase with only 10 cases since the Movement Control Order (MCO) began on 18th March. The CMCO is scheduled to end on 9th June.
