Three Malaysian Microbiology Students Win US University Awards

Three Malaysian students have just been declared as the Class Of 2020 Departmental Award Winners at Michigan State University, United States.
The three students are Nurul Izzati Mohamed, Nurul ‘Iffa Nazirah Taini Achim and Nuur Aqilah Izzati Othman, who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology at the university under the Public Service Department (JPA) sponsorship programme.
Nurul Izzati and Nurul ‘Iffa Nazirah both received the Dietrich C. Bauer Scholarship Award (High Honour Distinction) while Nuur Aqilah Izzati received the Russell Duvall Endowed Scholarship Award (Research).
The Dietrich C. Bauer Scholarship Award is given on the basis of academic achievement and financial need, while the Russell Duvall Endowed Scholarship Award is awarded on the basis of professional goals, research initiative, and financial need.

The 23-year-old Nuur Aqilah is the sole recipient of the Russell Duvall Endowed Scholarship Award (Research), which was bestowed after presenting her study on “Wheat Allergy: Do Wheat Genotypes Differ in Allergenicity” to a panel.
Bernama reports that the Johor lass was also conducting a joint study with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students on a research entitled Transdermal Sensitisation and Oral Elicitation of Anaphylaxis to Salt-Soluble Wheat Protein in An Adjuvant-Free Mouse Model of Wheat Allergy.
