Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is not happy with reports of people breaking standard operating procedures (SOP) while out Raya shopping.

During his daily Covid-19 conference, Dr Noor Hisham notes that there is an increase in shopping activities as Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches next week.

While he acknowledges that there are many businesses and customers that are compliant with the SOP, there are still a number of people who openly violate them at shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets.

Many netizens have shared images and videos of people who violate the SOP. This non-compliance deeply concerns the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry urges Malaysians to avoid shopping at places that are crowded, where social distancing cannot be carried out.

Dr Noor Hisham also reminds parents to not bring infants and young children out to shopping malls or crowded public spaces in order to protect them from the novel coronavirus.

While the number of cases are decreasing, we must remember that there is still a danger of Covid-19 infection in the community. Therefore, we must protect ourselves, our family and our community from the virus.

Last week, Dr Noor Hisham warned of the possibility of a second wave of Covid-19 infections in mid-June if Malaysians fail to adhere to the Health Ministry’s SOPs of social distancing.

This time range falls exactly two weeks after Hari Raya Aidilfitri on 23rd and 24th May. The incubation period of the novel coronavirus is believed to be up to 14 days.

As of 19th May, Malaysia has one new Covid-19 death, totalling to 114 deaths. Thirty seven new cases are also recorded today, bringing the national total to 6,978 cases where 1,218 are active.
