Government Wants To Take Action Against Parents Who Unnecessarily Take Their Kids Out During Pandemic

The government plans to take action against parents who unnecessarily bring their children out into public spaces.

Revealing that there has been a spike in Covid-19 cases among children in Malaysia, Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah advised parents against taking their children out to public venues such as shopping malls, restaurants, and hospitals during the current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period without a valid reason.

The DG explained that the government will be going over enforcement measures to address the issue, soon.

The Health Ministry (MOH) had necessitated the need for Malaysians to “up” their sense of social responsibility and be vigilant at protecting children from Covid-19. This is because like the elderly, children are considered as high-risk groups and extremely vulnerable to the disease.

As of May 16, the county recorded a total of 317 Covid-19 infections in children below the age of 12. 35% of those cases are of babies below the age of 4 while 7% of those infected were infants.

With 77 cases, Selangor has the highest concentration of Covid-19 infections in kids, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 48 cases, Johor with 46, while the Federal Territories and Sabah each have 28 and 26 reported cases, respectively.

Meanwhile, with Malaysian’s gearing up for Aidilfitri, the government again advises the public against going overboard with the festive season celebrations.

The police are asking the rakyat to report any instances of Malaysians violating CMCO restrictions and guidelines on Hari Raya.

PDRM said that they would reprimand any Hari Raya occasion that exceeds the allowed 20-guest maximum or in breach of health and social distancing protocols.
