With balik kampung strictly out of the option this Hari Raya, Malaysians are making extra effort to keep the Aidilfitri spirit burning.

The state of Terengganu is organizing its very own decorative oil lamp competition.

The Pelita Raya Online Beautiful Terengganu: PKP Raya Style 2020 contest invites Terengganuans to decorate and illuminate their abodes with traditional oil lamps for the chance to win cash prizes.

With restrictions imposed during Ramadan and Malaysians being banned from interstate travel or attending mass-gatherings of more than 20 people for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays due to the nationwide Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), things in Darul Iman have been a bit gloomy.

According to Terengganu’s Tourism, Culture, and Information Technology Committee Chairman Ariffin Deraman, customarily the season would be marked with flashing displays of pelitas flickering in the night, bathing the streets, and entire neighborhoods in a warm, welcoming light.

With the competition, the state hopes to brighten things up a little, by inspiring people to get creative and let their Aidilfitri spirit shine bright.

The competition would take place entirely online where contestants would simply need to decorate their homes to their best abilities and post either a photo or a video of their flashed up houses on Facebook.

Terms and conditions would apply, of course, so if you want more details, head on over to the Beautiful Terengganu Malaysia Facebook page, HERE.

Though the contest is only open for Terengganu residents, that shouldn’t stop the rest of us from adding a little sparkle to our days in isolation. Share with us your Hari Raya home decorations on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
