Selangor Govt Is Using QR Codes To Keep Track Of Places People Visit

The Selangor government has unveiled the SELangkah: Langkah Masuk dengan Selamat, a QR code framework to help track the people who have visited your business in case of there is a need to do contact tracing.
The idea is simple: each registered business or commercial premise has a unique QR code. Visitors to these shops will scan the QR code to “check-in”, creating a log of phone numbers with timestamps. This way, the shopkeepers and visitors can be easily alerted in case there has been any risk of Covid-19 exposure.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said in a statement today that the framework will address the new normal of the public having to register their contact information before entering any premise, which will be used as a means to help public health officials with contact tracing.
The digital approach will be safer, more accurate, and more efficient as it does away with manual pen and paper registration.
The onus is on businesses to ensure that they have this QR registry available for their customers and visitors. The government has ensured that the log data will be securely stored by the local government authorities.
Business owners who want to apply for their own QR code can easily do so on the official SELangkah website at this link or at selangkah.my. The registrations will be available starting 5 May 2020.
Visitors will be required to input their phone numbers after scanning the code to register their arrival at the premise.
