With the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) restricting household movement and activities, some Malaysians might be facing difficulty to take care of ALL of their families.

Polygamous men who want to visit their multiple wives during the lockdown must get permission from the police to do so.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin says that Muslim men who wish to travel beyond a 10-kilometer radius from their homes to visit their other wives would need to report to their nearest police station and get formal approval to do so.

So for example, if you are currently locked down at your first lady’s house, but would like to go see your second wife at her place which is further than 10km from your current location. You’d need to provide a good reason for the cops and essentially negotiate your way to your other spouse.

Noor Azam explained that police have been given discretionary powers to either allow or deny such travel requests depending on the gravity of the situation. Husbands would also need to provide adequate documentation and proof in order to essentially get visitation rights.

The Chief mentioned that thus far, no such request has been made in the state of Selangor during the MCO, but in the event of such occurrences, authorities already have their standard operating procedures (SOPs) to follow.
