45 Doctors Infected With Covid-19, Dr Noor Hisham Urges Full Precaution

45 general practitioners (GPs) have tested positive for Covid-19, says Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, which brings the number for total healthcare workers infected to 275.
Since GPs are the frontliners for treating patients who are feeling ill, they must take every precaution with all patients, even those who are not showing Covid-19 symptoms, says Dr Noor Hisham.
It’s not just Covid-19 either, but rather precautions for all infectious illnesses such as pneumonia, SARI (severe acute respiratory infections), and ILI (influenza-like illness) which exists in the community.
Dr Noor Hisham urges all doctors to protect themselves and treat SARI patients as Covid-positive until proven otherwise.
Even if it’s a runny nose you have to protect yourself. If you don’t have the results yet you are going to treat them as positive rather than treat them without protection then get the (positive) results later on.

A few days ago, several frontliners were reported to have contracted Covid-19 at their places of work. The source of infection is suspected to be from fellow colleagues or from other patients with the virus.
Since the outbreak, 275 healthcare workers have tested positive for the virus so far. According to Dr Noor Hisham, 199 of those cases were infections that came from contact within the community at large.
A significant number of the cases involve healthcare workers who have been previously linked to weddings attended by those present at the Sri Petaling tabligh event.
