Now that durian season is just around the corner, there might be some of us who are concerned about not being able to hunt for the sweet taste of those creamy, golden delights with the country still under a nationwide lockdown.

Well, the folks over in Penang can rest easy knowing that they’re still able to have an audience with the king of fruits even during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and can do so simply, online.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) says that durian entrepreneurs are still allowed to operate during the MCO.

MBPP is allocating over 200 stalls to the state’s durian traders to set up shop at any 9 of its wet markets that are open during the lockdown period.

Penang allows for traders and essential services to either continue business after having registered with the City Council or to rent and operate out of MBPP markets located on the island.

Reportedly, there were around 200 farms and 6 major durian wholesalers on the island that have been authorized to sell and market their products online, and operate via delivery.

The state’s Business From Home (BFH) and Business From Farm (BFF) programs allow for entrepreneurs to continue with their businesses, following strict guidelines by the authorities.
