Covid-19: Ismail Sabri Says Learn From Other Asian Countries’ 2nd Outbreak

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said that the recent improvement in Malaysia’s Covid-19 numbers is no excuse to violate the Movement Control Order.
He warned against being lulled into a false sense of security, reminding that several nations who relaxed their own lockdown rules wound up battling a second wave of infections.
Let us not forget that there are some countries that ease their restrictions when their Covid-19 cases decline. But eventually, infections rose again and they had to declare not only a lockdown, but some declaring an emergency as well.

Countries such as China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan that seemed to have the virus infection under control have imposed stricter measures following increasing new outbreaks.
Hong Kong, which had been reporting new daily cases in the single digits, suddenly saw cases spiking into the double digits.

Once lauded for its model response to Covid-19, Singapore’s number of coronavirus cases jumped from 266 to over 5,900 in one month. The island nation imposed lockdown-style restrictions called a “circuit breaker” on 7th April for a month.
Malaysia, once home to the highest number of confirmed cases in Southeast Asia, announced a record low of 36 new cases and zero deaths on 20th April. With a cumulative 5,425 confirmed Covid-19 infections, Malaysia also has the highest numbers in the region when it comes to patients who have recovered and been discharged.
Ismail Sabri emphasized the recent encouraging Covid-19 developments should be taken as a positive initiative to act decisively in containing the infection.
In the meantime the authorities will continue to enforce the rules of the MCO, now in its third phase and expect to last till 28th April.
