It’s a sad 420 in lockup for two Sabah men after they got arrested yesterday (19th April) for selling ketum juice by the roadside.

Setting up shop by a road at Kampung Dumpiring in Kundasang, New Straits Times reports that the 21 and 31-year-old were offering the psychotropic drink at RM30 per bottle to thirsty passers-by.

Unfortunately for them, policemen on Movement Control Order (MCO) patrol duty noticed the “stall” around 5.40pm and the ketum peddlers were promptly arrested.

Their wares, two bottles containing 3 litres of ketum juice, were also seized.

As the case is now investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, the two men are looking at a possibility of 4 years in prison or a fine of not more than RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

They are also being investigated for violating MCO under Rules 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local Infected Areas) Regulations 2020.

Suffice to say, there will be no more high-jinks for the two for a very long time.
