Barbershops, Optometrists Among 8 Businesses Allowed To Operate In MCO 3

During the Prime Minister’s announcement on 10 April about the further extension of the movement control order (MCO), he mentioned that a number of selected economic sectors will be reopened gradually with health guidelines and strict movement control.
Following that, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, International Trade and Industry (MITI) minister released a statement listing the sectors, including those in the non-essential and professional services, that will be given permission to operate.
However, before doing so, they must first apply online from 9am on Monday, 13 April, on the MITI website. He also warned that permission given to these companies will be revoked immediately if the businesses did not comply with the stated standard operating procedures.
The list of sectors allowed to operate are below:
1. Automotive industryÂÂ
Limited to exports of completely-build-up (CBU) units, parts and components, and after-sales services (such as maintenance).
2. Machinery and equipment industry
3. Aerospace industry
4. Construction projects and services related to construction work
- Projects of main contactors (G1-G2).
- Projects that have achieved physical progress of 90% and above.
- Tunnelling, maintenance, and slope work.
- Emergency work that are consequent to contractual obligations.
- Maintenance, cleaning, and drying of stagnant water, fogging of insecticides at construction sites to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes and other pests.
- Other work that may pose a danger if left incomplete.
- Building projects with IBS scores of 70 and above.
- Construction projects with accommodation facilities for workers.
- Professional services related to the construction industry including architects, engineers, town planners, land surveyors, quantity surveyors, project managers, facility managers and other relevant services.
5. Science, professional, and technical services, including research and development (R&D)
Services incidental to legal practice, oil and gas, R&D activities related to Covid-19, and testing labs for these sectors are all allowed to operate.
6. Social health services, including registered traditional and complementary medicine practitioners
7. Hardware shops, electrical and electronic shops, and optometrists in wholesale and retail sectors
8. Barbershops and hair salons
Only allowed to offer haircuts.
9. Laundry services
Only those offering full-services. Self-service laundrettes are not allowed to operate.
