In the battle against Covid-19, one needs to be armed with the right equipment – personal protective equipment (PPE).

Due to sheer volume of PPE required, there was a shortage and the nation witnessed our frontliners crafting their own versions out various materials from trash bags to plastic files.

Thankfully, Malaysians are quite the generous lot and we’ve seen members of the community rise to the occasion. Local designers and prison inmates have begun sewing protective gowns while groups of Malaysians have been making 3D printed face shields.

According to Bernama, the national car maker will begin producing this precious headpiece on 13th April at its headquarters in Shah Alam.

We have the know-how to produce cars. So, we are using that knowledge to produce PPEs to support the brave men and women on the frontline in containing the spread of Covid-19.

Staff volunteering for this task are set to produce 60,000 face shields in 20 days, which will then be given to the Health Ministry for free, to be worn by health workers on the frontline.

Proton deputy chief executive officer Datuk Radzaif Mohamed stated they will deliver the face shields in batches and distribute accordingly to the needs of districts as requested by the Health Ministry.

Being a car maker, it’s safe to assume that Proton probably has a few spare vehicles on its hands. So, they will also be loaning 50 Proton X70 cars to the ministry.
