Lady Arrested For Calling Authorities “Idiots” During MCO Pleads Not Guilty

The local lady who was arrested for insulting and obstructing police officers tasked at an Ops Covid roadblock pleaded not guilty to her charges.
Her alleged tale of calling officers “idiots†at a roadblock in Damansara, Petaling Jaya during the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) became one of the many hot topics in Malaysia during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Tong Poh Kim, a 44-year-old sales manager, was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for behaving indecently towards authorities, and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing authorities from performing their duties.

The sentences carry a maximum fine of RM100 and jail time for up to 2 years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, respectively, if convicted.
Tong’s bail was originally posted at RM1,000 for the first charge and RM 3,000 for the second one. However, lawyers pleaded for the court to lower the amount as the accused claimed to only earn RM2,000 a month.
