No RM1 Charge For ATMs Starting Monday

To avoid automated teller machines (ATMs) from being too crowded during Movement Control Order (MCO), the government has announced that the RM1 fee will be exempted starting Monday.

Senior Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that many were still queuing up at their respective banks to avoid paying the charge.

To overcome this issue, he said, the government via the Finance Ministry has decided that all financial institutions and PayNet will exempt the fee at all ATMs that use the Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS).

He said it will be effective throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO), which is expected to end on April 14.

Ismail also reminded the public to practice social distancing while lining up at ATMs and urged people to conduct all their bank transactions online instead.
